Matterlab produces innovative composite materials from mineral and organic waste and bi-products from construction, to provide alternatives to cement-based products. These materials can be molded and manufactured for architectural elements in facades, interiors and product design. The main innovative material, Nanocast, increases sunlight insulation for efficient energy designs, enables the abatement and prevention of primary pollutants, and self-cleans. In a new facility in the Bekaa, the company aims to collect rock powder residues from nearly stone cutting factories and quarries and incorporate them in their products.

The House of Lilies is an organic farm that grows herbs and fruit – in particular bananas. A recent product are dried banana chips, tested in the local market with excellent feedback. The farm needs a sustainable source of organic compost material and are partnering with a vermicompost producer that would use our banana leaves as a fodder to his worms in exchange of supplying us with compost. The banana leaves having a high-water content these need to be dried before feeding the worms. We aim to build a ventilated green house that can be used as a air drier to dry our products and the banana leaves.

ELKO trading aims to provide a natural alternative to agricultural use of chemicals, through its provision of natural fertilizer from chicken manure and ashes to agricultural farmers. The company collects manure with special tools and machineries, and undertakes fermentation, composting, bagging, sales and delivery with a sales record of 400tons. The natural product improves soil health and prevents runoff of chemical fertilizers into the ground and water resources.

Our solution relies on forestation by focusing on the endemic carob tree, thus promoting an ecosystem for biodiversity, reducing erosion and desertification, absorption by the soil of rainwater. The carob value chain has a global growing market ranging from carob leaves as well as the transformation of fruits into multiple products and the carob seeds into a highly demanded food additive. Agro Cedrus SARL and its team has a certified organic carob processing unit and 5 hectares of land planted with carob trees. Our solution can be replicated all over Lebanon.

Mortben is the region’s only business that provides 100% reusable meal packages for waste-free, healthy and locally sourced food options. The 6500 fresh meals they produced in 2021 are provided in reusable glass jars with a return service. Mortben plans to open a ready-to-eat concept store in Lebanon and to expand to the UAE.
